Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars program is an early-college promise program designed to make college more affordable for students.

Lake County Learns is a group of community members and local leaders who are passionate about connecting Lake County high schoolers with the educational opportunities they need for lifelong success.
Knowing the importance of college education, we successfully advocated with the Indiana State Legislator to ensure that every qualified student has the best access possible to a free college scholarship called 21ST Century Scholars. This legislation enacted in August 2023 automatically enrolls qualifying students in the 21ST Century Scholars program rather than requiring them to sign up manually by the end of 8th grade.
There are still a few simple, annual requirements that students need to complete in order maintain their scholarship, but this new legislation is a massive step forward in making education accessible to our Lake County students.
