Hello!

I’m Gerardo. A Project Engineer and 21st Century Scholar Alum.

High School:  Hobart

I’m Gerardo. After attending Hobart High School, I received free tuition to Purdue University because I was a 21st Century Scholar.

My parents were working class, they always wanted me to go to college, and I knew I wanted to push myself to go too. While I was in high school, I got involved in a little bit of everything: Spanish Club, Youth and Government, Swim Team, Soccer Team, and even the Golf Team. I worked a part-time job as an intern for a city engineer, and I made sure to get involved in my community as much as I could. College was something that I wanted to further my education and to change the future of my family’s economic prospects.

My mom found out about the 21st Century Scholars at a school seminar and signed me up immediately. It allowed me to attend and graduate from a great university, not have to stress about financing my education, and start a career with little to no debt. If I could go back and talk to my high school self, I’d tell him how proud I am of him for keeping up with all the requirements that put us on the path we’re on today.

The 21st Century Scholars Scholarship paid for my tuition to get a degree in a degree Construction Management Technology which brought me from being a high school intern for a city engineer to being a Project Engineer for JE Dunn Construction. To find out more about how you can receive the same tuition scholarship, reach out to your school counselor today!
