Hello!

I’m Jamaica. A Special Education Teacher and 21st Century Scholar Alum.

High School:  Gavit

I’m Jamaica. After attending Gavit High School, I received free tuition to Ball State University because I was a 21st Century Scholar.

In high school, I enjoyed almost everything the school had to offer. I sung in choir and perfomed in plays and musicals, I explored various academic activities like Spell Bowl, Honors Society, and the Black History Program, and I even ran on the cross country team. But these activities couldn’t qualify me for my long-term goals of helping children in our community get an education with the personalized help that they need to succeed.

To do that, I needed a college degree. Thanks to being a 21st Century Scholar and keeping up with all the requirements to keep the scholarship, I graduated in 2014 with degree in Elementary Education/Special Education and School Administration. That gave me the training and qualifications that I needed to become a special education teacher with the School City of Hammond back home in Lake County. Stay focused and keep doing what you are doing. Completing the few requirements to keep this scholarship can give you the same opportunities to meet your goals!
